GAYANE AVAKIAN

Gayane Avakian began her musical education at the age of three under her mother’s guidance, also a pianist, and at the age of seven started to perform solo and with Philharmonic Orchestra. She earned Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Piano performance and pedagogy from Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, Armenia; where later she became a tenured professor.

Ms. Avakian is a winner of several competitions: Third Prize in the 1st Trans-Caucasian Chamber Music competition, Second Prize and Special Prize of Press in The IX International Chamber Music Competition in Trapani, Italy. She had appeared on radio and television in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Italy and USA.

As a chamber musician and accompanist Ms. Avakian has collaborated with many distinguished instrumentalists and vocalists.

She was awarded “Best accompanist” Diploma at International Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany.

From 1992 till 2004 Gayane lived in New York, performing and teaching extensively. In June 1993 she was a member of Jury at the 6th Annual Youth Piano Competition of NY Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Avakian was a Faculty member at Long Island School of Music, NY, New York Conservatory of Music, Tchaikovsky Music School, Walnut, CA.
She has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; Juilliard School; Staller Center For The Arts, Stony Brook; Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre, Long Island, St. Sarkis Armenian Church, Douglaston; Holy Martyrs Armenian Church, Bayside; St. Vartan Cathedral, NY; St. Bartholomew’s Church, NY; Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; Lanterman Auditorium, La Canada, CA.

Currently Gayane Avakian is residing in La Crescenta, California. Ms. Avakian is a member of Music Teachers’ Association of California, National Federation of Music Clubs, USA, American Guild of Organists, and Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena, California.

In addition to her extensive performance schedule, she maintains a very busy private Piano Studio - among her students there are many prize winners of various competitions.
