Upon his graduation with distinction from the Moscow Conservatory College, Mr. Korzhev pursued his graduate studies at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow with Alexander Sats, where he received the highest rating for his entrance audition. In 1991, he was invited to the United States as a featured recitalist for the Southwestern Youth Music Festival. In addition, with six day's notice, he performed the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1 with the Festival Orchestra. He then auditioned for the faculty of the University of Southern California and immediately was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to pursue his studies in the United States under the direction of Daniel Pollack. In the United States, Mr. Korzhev became a recipient of many prestigious competition awards and scholarships. In 1993 he won the highest awards at the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, which led him to a series of performances, including a recital at the Palm Springs Desert Museum and the solo recital, as well as two orchestra appearances in Rome with the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome in the summer of 1994, conducted by Francesco Caratenuto. In December 1998 he was a winner in the Heida Hermann International Piano Competition in Connecticut. Most recently, in February 2005, Mr. Korzhev won the 1st Prize at the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, in Palm Springs, California. Mr. Korzhev is very active as both a solo performer and a chamber musician; he has also performed with many symphony orchestras and collaborated with such distinguished conductors as Sergio Comissiona and Carlo Ponti, Jr. Several of his performances were broadcast live by various radio stations, including KMZT 105.1. In September 2006, Korzhev had a highly successful concert tour in Austria, which included his critically acclaimed debut in the Konzerthaus in Vienna. This concert was recorded live and broadcast by the leading Austrian radio station, OE1 ORF. Mr.
Korzhev's performances have received high critical acclaim in both local

As a winner of that competition in September of 2006 Korzhev gave a recital in the Vienna’s Konzerthaus about which the Wiener Zeitung wrote: “Korzhev obviously has much affection for Krenek’s personal style, due to this the listener experiences the dramatic qualities of the work…” Following the success of his Vienna debut Korzhev recorded a CD of Krenek’s piano music that is being released by Phoenix (Naxos) Records in the Summer of 2008 became an instant top seller, eliciting five stars reviews from Audiophile Audition, Amazon.com and other on-line sources. In these reviews the performance on the disc is described as “marvelous…exquisite…sensitive…” Korzhev combines his performing career with teaching. He is currently on the faculty of the California State University, Fullerton. In the Spring 2008 he will also start teaching at University of Southern California. In the Summer of 2008 he join the faculty roster of the Beverly Hills International Music Festival. In June 2009 he will participate as a faculty of the prestigious Bosendorfer Piano Academy in Vienna. |
