MIKHAIL KORZHEV
Piano

Born in Moscow, began performing extensively both as a soloist and with orchestra whiles still a student at the Moscow Conservatory College, where he studied with Vera Khoroshina. He performed in the most famous halls, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the Hall of the House of the Union.

Upon his graduation with distinction from the Moscow Conservatory College, Mr. Korzhev pursued his graduate studies at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow with Alexander Sats, where he received the highest rating for his entrance audition. In 1991, he was invited to the United States as a featured recitalist for the Southwestern Youth Music Festival. In addition, with six day's notice, he performed the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1 with the Festival Orchestra. He then auditioned for the faculty of the University of Southern California and immediately was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to pursue his studies in the United States under the direction of Daniel Pollack.

In the United States, Mr. Korzhev became a recipient of many prestigious competition awards and scholarships. In 1993 he won the highest awards at the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, which led him to a series of performances, including a recital at the Palm Springs Desert Museum and the solo recital, as well as two orchestra appearances in Rome with the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome in the summer of 1994, conducted by Francesco Caratenuto. In December 1998 he was a winner in the Heida Hermann International Piano Competition in Connecticut. Most recently, in February 2005, Mr. Korzhev won the 1st Prize at the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, in Palm Springs, California.

Mr. Korzhev is very active as both a solo performer and a chamber musician; he has also performed with many symphony orchestras and collaborated with such distinguished conductors as Sergio Comissiona and Carlo Ponti, Jr. Several of his performances were broadcast live by various radio stations, including KMZT 105.1. In September 2006, Korzhev had a highly successful concert tour in Austria, which included his critically acclaimed debut in the Konzerthaus in Vienna. This concert was recorded live and broadcast by the leading Austrian radio station, OE1 ORF.

Mr. Korzhev is currently on the faculty of the California State University, Fullerton. He holds a doctorate in piano performance from University of Southern California, where he studied with Daniel Pollack.
