An
accomplished violinist and violist, Svetlana Oganesian began her musical
education at the age of 6 with Professor Henrik Smbatian. She received
her Bachelors degree in violin at the Tchaikovsky Special Music School
in Yerevan. Thereafter, she went on to receive her Masters and PhD degrees
in Violin Performance and Pedagogy at Yerevan State Conservatory.
Ms. Oganesian has won several competitions: First Prize of the Armenian
Young Soloists Competition, Second Prize of the VII Trans-Caucasian Competition,
Second and Special Prize of the International Competition of Chamber Music
in Italy. She has had numerous television and radio appearances in Armenia,
Russia, Italy, and United States. In 1991, Ms. Oganesian moved to New
York. Since then, she has performed in New York at Carnegie Hall, Staller
Center for the Arts at Stony Brook, and St. Vartan Cathedral of New York
City, among various other venues.
After moving to California in 2002, Ms. Oganesian has played at the Thornton
School of Music in University of Southern California (USC), Zipper Concert
Hall at the Colburn School, etc. As a soloist she has had several appearances
with “Crown City Symphony”. Ms. Oganesian is an active member
of Pasadena based Tuesday Musicale Club, where she is extensively involved
playing with different chamber groups.
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Ms. Oganesian maintains
an enterprising private studio in La Canada Flintridge, California where
she focuses her teaching on integrated solo and chamber music repertoire.
Ms. Oganesian holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the New York
State University at Stony Brook, where she studied with professors Lazar
Gosman and Misha Amory.
